Tudoresque Hawley Estate House for Sale
New
This eclectic modern throwback to a lakeside development is a resort in itself.
This seemingly unassuming house has pretty big aspirations, as this stone-clad turret should indicate. It turns out that 1070 Dewberry Dr., Hawley, PA 18428 fulfills them. | Scranton MLS images via ERA One Source Realty
If you haven’t noticed it yet, Poconos homes tend to fall into four broad categories: Rustic Hunting Lodge, Ski Cabin, Cabin, and Contemporary.
Of course, these categories don’t capture the full spectrum of Poconos home architecture. To date, we’ve featured Colonial, American Foursquare, and a few other varieties of homes for sale in the Pennsylvania Vacation Playground.
I’m struggling to put this eclectic Hawley real estate home for sale in one box. I just know it doesn’t fit into any of those areas. Obviously, it draws its exterior architectural cues from Tudor homes, but it lacks many details that make a home a true Tudor. Rather, it looks like a fairly typical contemporary house to which Tudor froufrou has been added, notably the octagonal turret that holds the front door.

Foyer
Step through that front door, however, and you step into a world that is fundamentally traditional rather than Tudor, but also has some non-traditional touches. The turret’s floating staircase is one of them.
Most of the architectural and decorative details in this home, however, are not contemporary. But they aren’t medieval either. On the contrary, they listen to America at the end of the 19th century. But at the same time, this house has a foot in the here and now.

Salon
Take the living room, for example. While the backlit crown moldings, ceiling fan and sizable stone fireplace are reminiscent of the past, the clean lines and sliding doors framing the fireplace are very contemporary.

Rear deck on the ground floor
The same goes for the deck that sits beyond the sliding glass doors. From there you have a magnificent view of the sumptuously landscaped backyard of this home. I will have more to say about the garden in a moment.

Dining room
The formal dining room to the left of the foyer, on the other hand, exudes a pure colonial vibe with its coffered ceiling, chandelier, and picture rail.

Food
The kitchen and breakfast room definitely straddles the centuries. A beautiful pressed pewter ceiling and traditional mahogany cabinetry and woodwork surround fully modern upscale appliances that include a wine fridge under the coffee bar.

Breakfast room
The pressed pewter continues on the vaulted ceiling of the breakfast room, whose table is attached to the kitchen island.
Two of the four bedrooms in this house are on the ground floor. The other two are at the top of this floating staircase. The master suite is to the right of the stair turret and has several cool extras.

Living room of the master suite
One of them is the living room you enter first.

Master bedroom
It shares a double-sided fireplace with the spacious bedroom with glass roof.

Main bathroom
The main bathroom is the most downright modern room in the house. Bordered from top to bottom in marble tiles, it includes a bathtub, vanity unit and a shower cubicle with a glass barn door.

Master suite deck
Next to the bedroom, a private terrace also overlooks the backyard.

Games room in the basement
You can access this courtyard directly via stairs leading down from the ground floor back deck or through the sliding doors to the basement playroom. This versatile space has a wet bar and wood-burning stove as well as plenty of space for media, games, and exercise equipment.

Sauna
After training, you can also enjoy one of the two spa areas. One is the games room sauna.

whirlpool jacuzzi
The other is the Jacuzzi tub under the deck, just outside the game room.

Backyard
A paved patio connects the outdoor bath to the various relaxation, recreation and entertainment areas contained on the three-acre wooded lot of this home.

Koi pond and waterfall
The first is a relaxing waterfall and a koi pond. Beyond is a fenced pool and beyond the pool is a fire pit.
So this eclectic Hawley estate for sale has just about everything you need to have fun and entertain your guests on site. But if that’s all you want, why are you buying in the Poconos?
You come to the Poconos for other things, like skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and boating. This home comes with another convenience that lets you do two of these things:

Hidden lake
Hidden Lake, the first of two man-made lakes along Seeley Creek, which feeds into Wallenpaupack Lake a short distance from here. This home is part of the Hidden Lake Estates community and this property has lake use rights.
You could say that this Hawley estate home for sale lets you enjoy the civilized side of Poconos life while also giving you access to the wilder side. And it does so in a very attractive and well-equipped mashup of traditional and contemporary styles.
