More than a few days ! The Met Gala, which is essentially fashion’s biggest night, officially returns on Monday, September 13, after being canceled in 2020 and postponed to 2021.
But the wait is well worth it, as stars will inevitably step onto the scene in extravagant ensembles, daring dresses, and statement styles in keeping with the theme of the evening: In America: A Fashion Lexicon. This is the first exhibition of the two-part event. The second, In America: An Anthology of Fashion, will open on May 5, 2022.
“We very consciously wanted this to be a celebration of the American fashion community, which suffered so much during the pandemic,” Andrew Bolton, the curator of the Costume Institute, said The New York Times. “I think American fashion is experiencing a renaissance, with young American designers at the forefront of discussions about diversity, inclusion, sustainability and conscious creativity. I find this incredibly exciting.
He added: “I have been really impressed with the responses of American designers to the social and political climate, especially around issues of body inclusiveness and gender fluidity and I just find their work very, very self-reflective.
