How to farm Darkest Before – Destiny 2

Unlock the darkest Pulse Rifle before in Destiny 2 and dominate in Crucible.

Darkest Before is a rapid-fire pulse rifle that has gained a lot of attention in Destiny 2. This thing can blast an opponent in the blink of an eye, making it a great option for competitive Crucible activities like attempts. For those who want to create a meta-load, cultivating a Darkest Before should be a top priority.

How to grow Darkest Before

Darkest Before is available as a reward by defeating the Kell Echo at the end of Prophecy Dungeon. However, to farm Darkest Before, you must have completed all previous encounters in the activity. This means that you can’t just grab a boss checkpoint from another group of players.

Go through the entire Prophecy Dungeon, then save the boss checkpoint to make sure you’re properly mining Darkest Before.

To put all of this in place, head into the Prophecy dungeon on the character you plan to farm the final boss with. If it’s been a while, familiarize yourself with our Prophecy Dungeon guide so you don’t run into any obstacles.

Go through the dungeon until you get to the boss. At this point, exit and load up another character. This character will be the one who “saves” the checkpoint. Perform a squad cleanup to make sure the secondary character has the checkpoint, then reload it on your original character.

Defeat Kell Echo and claim your rewards. Now switch to your secondary character, charge into the Prophecy dungeon, have your squad join you, and then switch to your main character (the one who just completed the dungeon). Defeat the boss, then start over.

Shout out to Junktown and the rest of the Destiny 2 community on the Shacknews Chatty Discord server for pointing out this method of farming. It should be noted that if you only get Moonfang Drops, and not Darkest Before, something went wrong during the farming process.

As mentioned above, Darkest Before is seeing an increase in popularity thanks to its ability to take down enemies in PVP. For this reason, the perks you are looking for will seek to complement your PVP playstyle and correct the potential flaws of this weapon.

A glance at Light.gg reveals that Darkest Before suffers in its range stat and, thanks to its high rate of fire, can bounce back a bit. For this reason, focusing on the barrel and magazine perks that mitigate those negatives is a good idea.

  • Cannon: small caliber (range +7, stability +7), corkscrew (range +5, stability +5, handling +5) or arrowhead brake (handling +10, recoil +30)
  • Magazine: Ricochet cartridges (range +5, stability +10), high caliber cartridges (range +5) or Flare Magwell (stability +5, reload speed +15)

As for perks, sustenance is especially helpful as it will help you keep shooting while losses fill the mag. You can also consider Slideshot for the reload effect and increased range and stability. There are plenty of great options for the final perk column, including the full auto trigger system, Rampage, and even the Elemental Capacitor for added stability. Incessant (kills health regeneration trigger) is also a decent option, as it will keep you in the fight longer.

The darkest Pulse Rifle before is growing in popularity, so this is the one you might want to consider adding to your arsenal. As the 540RPM Arc Pulse, expect it to kick in, but that can be outweighed by some of its perks, of which it has a decent pelvis.
