Charges dropped against Mower County MP accused of beating a prisoner
FARIBAULT, Minn. – Charges against a Mower County MP for attacking a handcuffed prisoner have been dropped.
Ryan Matthew Chrz, 35 of Austin, has been charged with two counts of misconduct by a public official and two counts of fifth degree assault.
Law enforcement says Chrz arrested a teenager on January 16, 2019, after an incident at McDonald’s in Austin. Chrz has been accused of punching the handcuffed teenager in the face after the teenager kicked Chrz in the groin. Court documents say the teenager said he never kicked Chrz and claimed he was hit three times with pepper spray.
Chrz pleaded not guilty to the charges and the case was continued by the Rice County District Attorney’s Office. A trial was due to start on Monday, but the Rice County District Attorney’s Office dismissed all charges after being unable to produce a key witness and said it had no hope of doing so in the future.
