All dungeons available to play in December 2021
Endgame activities for Destiny 2 are one of his biggest draws. It’s here that players will find pieces of gear that roll at the Supreme Light Level and help make their Guardians as strong as possible. Some of the more engaging endgame activities are the dungeons that Destiny 2 has introduced in recent years. Each dungeon sports a specific loot table that drops some of the most effective weapons in the game.
Currently, there are a total of four unique dungeons spread across different locations in Destiny 2. Each of these four dungeons, while similar in length, incorporates different themes and mechanics to make players feel comfortable. These mechanics usually build on each other, creating a way to understand the dungeon while forcing players to take new approaches when defeating enemies.
The broken throne
The first dungeon to be introduced was The Shattered Throne in the Abandoned expansion. By focusing on the enemies caught, The Shattered Throne expands on key lore elements for Destiny 2 and was a major step in the current direction of the game. With the curse of Dul ââIncaru, one of the Destiny 2The Worst Enemies of has been introduced yet, trapping Dreaming City in a perpetual time loop. This set off a chain reaction within the Taken, Scorn and Hive factions, which is expected to come to a head in The witch queen expansion.
The dungeon itself has become a top choice for players looking to gain experience and earn quick bounties from a location dubbed the Thrallway. Here, countless Taken Thrall will spawn in waves, allowing players to find a safe place to take down kills without having to wait for respawns. This location is also great for reducing the eliminations required when achieving long Exotic Weapon Catalysts in Destiny 2.
The Pit of Heresy
After the introduction of The Shattered Throne, there was the Pit of Heresy dungeon. This dungeon is linked to the Hive and was introduced as part of the Shadow guard expansion. Located on the Moon, it sends players deep into the bowels of the Scarlet Dungeon, forcing the Guardians to fight against the Hidden Swarm: the last of Oryx’s living descendants. While it doesn’t have as much of an influence as the lore associated with The Shattered Throne, the Pit of Heresy dungeon also plays a role in Savathun’s plans. It was the Witch Queen’s hope that the Guardians would return to the Moon and eliminate the last of her brother’s line as she believed she was done taking her course.
In terms of gameplay, the Pit of Heresy is a dungeon that requires more walking than the others. While the Necropolis and Tunnels of Despair will force players to navigate vertical elevators and a dark, winding maze filled with beehives, it is The Harrow that many players might find most frustrating. The jumping puzzle is complicated and designed to kill players at every opportunity. While not the first in the series, it is one of the more frustrating platforming sections introduced in Destiny 2, something nowhere near as forgiving as the Deep Stone Crypt raid.
The dungeon of prophecies
The Prophecy Dungeon stands out as the first to be available to all players, whether or not they have the Season Pass for the Arrivals Season. Similar to The Shattered Throne, it also focuses on enemies caught – but with a twist. The Caught in Prophecy Dungeon are simulated entities generated by inropore beings known as the Nine. It plays into Prophecy’s role as a quest for answers rather than focusing on defeating dangerous enemies.
The prophecy also stands out as the first of Destiny 2 dungeons to allow players access to their sparrows in the Wasteland and Deadsea areas, making them one of the two alongside the Grasp of Greed. While useful in the Wasteland, it can be difficult in the Deadsea section thanks to the roller coaster nature of Prophecy Dungeon.
The dungeon’s emphasis on sparrow riding is limited, and its playstyle is more focused on puzzles. The balance between light and dark is a major aspect of the encounters players face in Prophecy. This mechanic incorporates particles of light and darkness similar to those used in the Gambit game mode through its three major encounters. The deposit of these particles in the corresponding wells becomes the key to the final encounter with the boss, allowing the fire teams to move on to the damage phase and obtain an audience with the emissary.
Grasp of greed
As the most recent addition to Destiny 2, the secrets of the Grasp of Greed dungeon may not all be revealed, but it quickly became one of the most entertaining activities. Greed of Greed is perhaps the most distinct from other dungeons, as its chosen lore doesn’t seem to carry as much weight. This seems to be delayed by the comments on the appearance of the dungeon, as many players think. The Goonies inspired Grasp of Avarice and its aesthetic.
On top of that, Grasp of Avarice also plays a key role for Guardians who want to get their hands on the exotic Gjallarhorn rocket launcher. The near-mythical rocket launcher was requested by Destiny 2 players since its release. Combined with the pirate-themed loot inspired by previous Bungie titles, Grasp of Avarice quickly gained popularity.
Despite how the Dungeon stands out, Grasp of Greed also brings a change by not being free or part of expansions. While Grasp of Avarice was released in Season of the Lost, it is part of Bungie’s 30th Anniversary Pack. This appears to be a trend that will continue in the future, and has directly led to community discussions on whether Destiny 2 should treat dungeons like DLC. Yet with the other dungeons of Destiny 2, this is one of the fastest paced activities players can try; the happy medium between the end of an expansion and raids.
